Sunday, Roya learned from a Senior Management Committee for Epidemics source that an emergency meeting was held at the Prime Ministry at the request of Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh in order to discuss the surge in COVID-19 cases in the Kingdom; the increase in the PCR test rates; and the highly contagious COVID-19 mutations in Jordan.

The source said that the committee has intensified its meetings and is closely monitoring Jordan's pandemic situation in order to make important decisions, given the high number of COVID-19 deaths, especially from the mutated variants, which is characterized by its rapid spread.

Sunday, Jordan recorded 11 deaths and 3,917 COVID-19 cases, bringing the total deaths to 4,554 deaths and the total infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 363,728.

Notably, there are 23,298 active cases in the Kingdom, with positive PCR test rates surging to 15.6 percent.

Saturday, the Minister of State for Media Affairs, Ali Al-Ayed, made it clear that the Prime Ministry will continue monitoring the pandemic curve, and will study the recommendations submitted by the Epidemics Committee, which Khasawneh directed to continue holding monitoring meetings in an intensive manner.

Khasawneh noted that actions will be taken in light of the surge in cases which will be announced in due course.

Notably, Ayed said the committee agreed not to reopen any additional sectors that are not currently operating and will continue to assess the COVID-19 situation on a regular basis.
